Apple rumoured to be making ARM-based Macs with trackpad built into the keyboard

Microsoft's ARM-focussed Windows 8 RT has never been able to carve a niche for itself in the market, but everyone knows the ARM is fast becoming the standard for mobile devices. Even AMD is building ARM chipsets now to compete in the lucrative mobile market. But what about Apple? Will we ever see an ARM Mac? French website Macbidouille’s source has shared one of the most interesting rumours this year and it's slightly difficult to believe considering its Apple. The source has revealed that Apple is currently working on new ARM-based Mac variant with the Magic Trackpad built in to the keyboard of the system. As we are already familiar with the OS X; the company is planning to develop a new version of the same which will house these ARM processors. The company plans to launch the ARM processors with three machines initially, the iMac, Mac mini and most probably the 13-inch Macbook Air. The iMac and MBA are both said to have '4 or 8 quad-core ARM 64' processors whereas the Mac mini will feature a '4 ARM 64 quad-core' CPU. According to the source the new systems are almost in their last phase of development and will probably be released soon. Apple has kept the development under wraps especially given that the Mac line saw a transition not so long ago, when Apple moved to the Intel x86 platform. Needless to say, the ARM platform will be a major blow to Intel, if the rumour pans out. Apple had previously made a switch from PowerPC architecture to Intel x86 chips for its Mac line-up and it has been making ARM-based processors for use in iOS devices since the inception of the iPad.
