Apple marks milestone with sale of over one billion iOS devices

Apart from its record-breaking earnings, love for the Watch and its rough launch date, Apple CEO Tim Cook also announced that the company sold its one billionth iOS device last year in November.He also said that the billionth device was a 64GB iPhone 6 Plus, and the company plans to keep one 64GB iPhone unit, at its headquarters to celebrate the milestone. This also means, it is at par with arch-rival Google who is believed to have broken the 1 billion Android devices barrier last year in December, according to Gartner.Needless to say, this quarter has been spectacular for Apple. The quarterly results smashed Wall Street expectations with record sales of big-screen iPhones in the holiday shopping season and a 70 percent rise in China sales, powering the company to the largest profit in corporate history.The company sold 74.5 million iPhones in its fiscal first quarter ended 27 December, while many analysts had expected fewer than 70 million. Revenue rose to $74.6 billion from $57.6 billion a year earlier.
