Apple hasn't refreshed the iPod Touch since 2015 and though a lot of us might have thought that's the end of the road for the iPod, a new report reveals that Apple could be in the process of developing a new iPod Touch this year. The same report also suggests that iPhones in 2019 could make a jump to USB-C, similar to the 2018 iPad Pros.[caption id="attachment_5901691" align="alignnone" width="1280"]2015 Apple iPod Touch. Image: Apple[/caption]According to a new report from supply chain blog Macotakara, Apple is likely going to feature a new iPod touch but fails to throw light on what new the 2019 version might have to offer. As per a report by 9To5Mac, an entry-level iPod touch would make more sense for Apple, in order to grow its install base and thus its Services segment. A new iPod touch would likely target younger users who aren’t yet ready for a smartphone. For those wondering if the iPod still exists? Well, Apple did discontinue the iPod Nano and the Shuffle in 2017, making the iPod Touch the only iPod variant still being sold by the company. The report goes on to state that the 2019 iPhones "might" make the switch to USB-C, just like the 2018 iPad Pros. The publication goes on to state that "those who are working on" the iPhone's USB-C transition indicate that they are yet to reach the reference design stage. This could mean that the switch may even happen in 2020 and might miss the timeline to make the cut for 2019 iPhones. An iPod refresh does sound fun but given the fact that we don't have a lot of information yet to go on, this might just turn out to be a rumour. Macotakara does have a decent track record with leaks, however, we might have to wait it out a while longer to find out if the news is at all true.
