7,000 Starbucks outlets in the US to get free Wi-Fi from Google

If you’re a regular at Starbucks in the United States, here’s some exciting news for you. Wi-Fi networks across 7,000 company-operated Starbucks outlets in the US have now gone Google. The search giant, together with the popular coffeehouse chain in the US, will be bringing faster, free Wi-Fi connections at these outlets over the next 18 months.

"When your local Starbucks Wi-Fi network goes Google, you’ll be able to surf the web at speeds up to 10x faster than before. If you’re in a Google Fiber city, we’re hoping to get you a connection that’s up to 100x faster," elaborates Kevin Lo, General Manager at Google Access, in an official post.

Expect to see the new networks in August. Once you have it at your local Starbucks outlet, log in to the “Google Starbucks” SSID and get going.

The move is clearly an interesting one and it’ll help customers enhance their experience while at Starbucks. This coffeehouse chain in the United States is also frequented by students who do not have the facility of Internet at home and need a fast Internet connection to finish their homework. “The free Internet connection at Starbucks has become an important part of many communities over the years, such as in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy,” Lo adds.
