Jobs was right, Adobe decides to kill Flash for mobile

Adobe will soon end Flash player plug-in for mobile browsers, thus signalling the end of the flash era, a prediction that was made by the late CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs.

For all those you've hated Flash, there's good news. ZDNet reports that, Adobe will soon end the Flash player plug-in for mobile browsers, thus signalling the end of the flash era, a prediction that was made by the late CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs.

The story was first broken by ZDNet who had obtained an email from Adobe which stated,

"Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations. Some of our source code licensees may opt to continue working on and releasing their own implementations. We will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates."

Flash was made redundant with the development of Javascript, CSS, and HTML5, which has native support for video. Jobs had written a long letter against Flash and in fact the iPhone was launched without any support for flash. Flash for android was, to put it kindly, buggy. And therefore, tech watchers all over the world are happy that Flash will soon be goon.

TechCrunch's Mike Siegler had this to say on the end of the Flash era and the Steve Jobs' rant against it, "In his post, he ( Jobs) outlined the need for a move towards technologies like HTML 5 and now that's exactly where Adobe is heading."

Adobe's decision to end Mobile flash could also be a part of the cost-cutting at the company which had announced that it would be cutting nearly 750 jobs on Tuesday.
