The Acer Predator Triton 700 gaming laptop is slim, VR-ready and hosts a transparent trackpad

The Razer Blade is the default gaming ultrabook for many, a surprising niche that Razer somehow managed to fill. Acer’s recently announced Triton 700 gaming laptop looks like an attempt to take on Razer in this domain.

The Triton 700, unveiled at Acer’s next@acer event in New York, is a 15.6-inch device that weighs just 2.6 kg and measures 18.9 mm from the side. This relatively slim chassis will house a 7th generation Intel processor, an Nvidia GeForce 10-series graphics card, up to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM and two NVMe PCIe SSDs in RAID 0. That last just means that your storage will be blisteringly fast.

Oh, and Acer’s apparently managed to squeeze an RGB-backlit "mechanical" keyboard into that chassis. These don't seem to be the traditional, Cherry MX type mechanical keys however, and seem more akin to the butterfly switches on Apple's MacBooks.

That's not all that's interesting about the keyboard, however. It's been moved down, where the trackpad would be, and the trackpad has been made larger, transparent, and placed near the display hinge. The trackpad is made of Gorilla Glass, so at least it shouldn't break easily.

The placement of the trackpad is unusual, but this is a gaming laptop, after all, and you'll probably be using it with a mouse anyway.

Acer hasn’t clarified the exact specifications of the device, so we can’t comment on its capabilities.

Acer did add that its using an “AeroBlade 3D” fan with metal blades to help cool this device.

Interestingly Acer claims that the Triton 700 is designed to be VR-ready, so we can assume that the GPU will be a powerful one.

The device’ pricing is expected to start at $2,999, which is almost Rs 2,00,000 in the US. India pricing and availability details are yet to be revealed, but the prices will definitely be way higher.
