Apple scales back vision product roadmap under incoming CEO John Ternus: Report

Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had previously shared a roadmap outlining the company's vision-related products that were expected to reach the market over the coming years. However, a recent update from Kuo suggests that Apple has significantly scaled back those plans.  Kuo, reveals in her post that a revised roadmap has reportedly been approved by Apple's next CEO, John Ternus.

Last June, Kuo stated that Apple had seven head-mounted and wearable devices in various stages of development. One of those products, the M5-powered Vision Pro, has already entered production and is expected to ship in the near future.

Kuo shared the update in a post on X, where he claimed that the overhaul of Apple's vision products roadmap had been signed off by John Ternus.

Notably, Kuo's latest report removes any potential Vision Pro successors from Apple's publicly discussed roadmap. This aligns with some earlier reporting from Mark Gurman, though not entirely.

Gurman had previously reported that Apple was "working on a slimmer and lighter headset to succeed the $3,499 Vision Pro." However, he did not expect the product to launch until 2028 or 2029. The report was significant because Gurman had earlier suggested that Apple had shifted its primary focus toward smart glasses and had no immediate plans for a direct Vision Pro successor.

Responding to Kuo's latest claims, Gurman said that the rumored Vision Air headset was discontinued in October 2025, while display-equipped smart glasses designed to pair with a Mac were shelved in January 2025. He added that Apple's AI-powered smart glasses remain on track for a launch toward the end of 2027.

With WWDC just around the corner, Apple may offer further clues about its long-term ambitions in the mixed reality and wearable technology space.

John Ternus is expected to take over as Apple's CEO on September 1, 2026, while Tim Cook will remain with the company as Executive Chairman.
