Tennis legend wants Alcaraz-Sinner dominance to end, issues Djokovic warning: 'They are like ice and fire'

Boris Becker wants to see a new Grand Slam winner and an end to the dominance by Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz as he sent a Novak Djokovic warning to the duo. Alcaraz and Sinner have won all the men's singles major titles since the start of 2024.

The duo's dominance has also stretched the 38-year-old Novak Djokovic's wait to win a record 25th Grand Slam. Djokovic had reached the final of the Australian Open 2026 in a stunning fashion, only to go down in four sets against Alcaraz in the summit clash.

Six-time Grand Slam winner and former world No 1 Becker, however, has warned against ruling out Djokovic from the future Grand Slam races as we inch closer to the French Open.

Becker backs Djokovic over Alcaraz-Sinner 

The Roland Garros tournament will be played from 24 June, and Becker wants to see a new Grand Slam winner in Paris.

While underlining Djokovic's threat to Sinner and Alcaraz, Becker said that someone like Alexander Zverev can break the duo's grip on the major titles.

“First of all, let me express my admiration and respect for what Alcaraz and Sinner are doing, having just shared nine Grand Slam titles between them. And Carlos is only 22 and Jannik is 24,” Becker said.

“But, on the other hand, I really want to see other players come and challenge them. I’m thinking of [Alexander] Zverev. He served for the match in the Australian Open semi-finals against Alcaraz. It was very close."

On Djokovic, his former coach Becker said: “And we mustn’t forget Djokovic. As long as he’s playing, we must never forget him. He operates in a rather unique sphere, with his record of 24 Grand Slam titles.

“He was even in the final in Melbourne. Truly, as long as he is a professional tennis player, he will be a force to be reckoned with.”

Becker also compared the rivalry between Sinner and Alcaraz to the battle between Ivan Lendl and himself.

“Sinner and Alcaraz are like ice and fire, like the relationship between Lendl and me,” he said. “I find Alcaraz a fascinating player. He’s exactly what tennis needs. He’s charismatic, a joy to watch, a true artist of the game. I don’t see any weaknesses in him.

“But artists need a source of inspiration, and I think Sinner is his. Because if the matches become too easy for him, I’m afraid he’ll start to get bored. But he’s only 22, and the sky’s the limit.”
