Norway Chess 2026 pairings revealed; Gukesh to face Carlsen on these two dates

The pairings and detailed schedule for the Norway Chess 2026 was revealed on Sunday with reigning world champion D Gukesh set to clash against the home favourite and the World No.1 Magnus Carlsen twice.

Norway Chess 2026 kicks off May 25 and will go on till June 5. Besides Gukesh, the tournament will also feature R Praggnanadhaa from India. France's Alireza Firouzja and Germany's Vincent Keymer and America's Wesley So are the other competitors in the open category.

Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa have both struggled for form of late and would want to do well in the strong field in Norway. For Gukesh, the event will be extremely crucial as he prepares to defend his world title against Javokhir Sindarov later this year. Gukesh is set to face Carlsen in Round 4 on May 28 and Round 10 on June 5. The two matches are expected to be the showpiece of the event.

The women's field is led by the reigning Women’s World Champion Ju Wenjun of China. Indian veteran Koneru Humpy and rising star Divya Deshmukh will both be featuring in the women's section alongside Anna Muzychuk, Zhu Jiner and Bibisara Assaubayev will also take part.
