Jannik Sinner delivers verdict on teenage stars who could soon challenge him and Carlos Alcaraz: ‘Very good players’

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have emerged as the strongest force in men's tennis since 2024, winning all the Grand Slam titles. After Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal and with Novak Djokovic ageing, Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas were among the players who were supposed to take over, but Sinner and Alcaraz have left no space for the previous generation.

Will Alcaraz and Sinner also face the same in a few years? Will Rafael Jodar, Joao Fonseca, Rei Sakamoto and Nikolai Budkov, the teenage sensations, become the reasons for Alcaraz and Sinner's downfall?

Jannik Sinner's verdict on teenage tennis stars  

Sinner, who is currently competing at the Madrid Open, recently spoke about the upcoming 19-year-old tennis sensations, who are soon expected to give tough competition to the current world No 1 and 2.

“He’s [Jodar] a very very talented player who was warming up today with Nicolai – the Norwegian guy,” Sinner said. “Very interesting year, born in 2006 – Joao, Jodar, Nikolai, Sakamoto, they’re all very good players and it’s a very strong year.”

Rafael Jodar recently defeated Fonseca at the Madrid Open to reach the Round of 16 and could soon play against Sinner.

Speaking about the Spaniard, Sinner said: “Jodar is a very clean hitter, very easy power. You can hear with the sound when he touches… good sound coming from the racket and he’s very, very talented so he’s going to be a great, great player in the future.

“He’s already showing… I like the mentality, he is quite calm, and I don’t know him personally but he seems very humble.

“He’s a very good player and I wish him only the best.”

Sinner is scheduled to play against Cameron Norrie in the Round of 16 in Madrid on Tuesday. He will be aiming to win his first French Open next month, while Alcaraz is already out due to an injury.
