Indian tennis player Dhakshineswar Suresh became the centre of attraction as NCAA Collegiate National Champions gathered at White House to listen to US president Donald Trump.
US president Donald Trump was full of praise for Indian tennis star Dhakshineswar Suresh as the NCAA Collegiate National Champions gathered at the White House on Wednesday. Dhakshineswar Suresh was at the White House for the event that is called National Champions Day.
The National Champions Day brings together top NCAA teams, with the USA president acknowledging their contributions and honouring them for their national-level achievements. The annual event is designed to promote and recognise the contributions of student-athletes.
Trump praises Indian tennis player
India's 26-year-old Dhakshineswar Suresh was part of the National Champions Day with the Wake Forest University tennis team. The Wake Forest University team won the NCAA men's tennis championships by beating the TCU Horned Frogs 4-2 in the final.
While praising Dhakshineswar Suresh, Trump said: "Also in the winner's circle we have the 2025 NCAA men's tennis champions, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. They battled through a fierce postseason to claim their second national title. DK Suresh delivered the clinching point to UCLA 4-2 victory over TCU in the final. And I want to congratulate you.

Dhakshineswar Suresh, who hails from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, recently became a big talking point after he helped India beat the Netherlands 3-2 in the Davis Cup 2026 Qualifier 1 tie in Bengaluru in February.
Dhakshineswar Suresh had moved to the USA to play collegiate tennis. And while he started at Georgia Gwinnett College, he later moved to Wake Forest University.
After his NCAA and David Cup heroics, Dhakshineswar Suresh will look to improve his ranking at the world level. He is currently ranked 457th in the doubles and 465th in the singles.
