Who will win more Grand Slams between Alcaraz and Sinner? Veteran star makes bold prediction: 'In the future, it will be...'

The fierce rivalry between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz has defined men's tennis for more than two years now, with the young stars having accounted for all the Grand Slams that have taken place since the start of the 2024 season.

The legendary Novak Djokovic had won the last of his 24 Grand Slams at the 2023 US Open, and the 'Sincaraz' pair would go on to win two Majors each over the next couple of years. At the Australian Open earlier this year, Alcaraz thwarted Djokovic's push for a record 25th Grand Slam, defeating the 38-year-old 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 7-5 in the men's singles final to win his maiden title at Melbourne Park.

The Spaniard currently has seven Grand Slam titles in his cabinet at the age of 22 while 24-year-old Italian Sinner has four. But which of the two youngsters will end up with more Majors at the end of their careers?

'Sinner will win the most majors'

French tennis player Benoit Paire, who has faced both top stars on the court, has backed Sinner to end up with more titles to his name despite Alcaraz's current lead over his arch-rival. In a chat with Tennis365, the 36-year-old Frenchman felt that while the Grand Slam title race between the two will remain a close affair for a number of years, Sinner has the edge when it comes to hard courts.

"I would say Sinner will win the most majors," Paire said. "I think he is very solid on hard courts and little more focused win the game. He wants to win everything, so that’s the difference between him and Alcaraz. Maybe I’m wrong, I don’t know, but that’s what I think."

"In the future, it will be a big battle between those two. I am also hoping that there will be more players coming through like Joao Fonseca, but for the moment, I think it is between those two," he added.

Paire recalls hearing about Alcaraz for the first time

Paire, who has gone as far as the fourth round at the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open, also recalled being informed about Alcaraz's former coach Juan Carlos Ferrero raving about his talent when he was yet to establish himself among the sport's elite.

"I played against Juan Carlos in my career and he said to me, you have to look at this guy because he is very good,” Paire continued.

“Then, after just one year, he was already challenging at the top and we can also see how good he was.

“He has matured so quickly and achieved so much already. He is just 22 and he has won at the Slams. It’s something different," he added.

Alcaraz and Sinner had faced each other in the final of the Monte Carlo Masters on Sunday in which the latter triumphed in straight sets with a 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 scoreline.
