Special selfie for Victor Wembanyama as NY Knicks create history by thrashing San Antonio in NBA Finals Game 1

Victor Wembanyama was all smiles as a fan ran onto the court midway through the fourth quarter of Game 1 of the NBA Finals, appearing to try to take a selfie next to San Antonio Spurs star. The security officials were caught off guard when the fan ran onto the court, and quickly responded by converging on him and taking him out.

The fan came from the sideline opposite the team benches, starting from behind the play and running into San Antonio's offensive end. The person was quickly pulled from the court by two security guards and it did not appear that the person made any contact with Wembanyama or any New York players.

Play was stopped for about a minute before the game resumed with a jump ball. The fan was taken out of the court area through a baseline tunnel.

Historic win for New York Knicks

Results-wise, however, Wembanyama did not have much to smile about as his team, the San Antonio Spurs, suffered a 105-95 loss to the New York Knicks in Game 1 of the finals on Wednesday night.

New York Knicks are the first team to beat San Antonio in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. The Spurs had a 6-0 record so far.

Jalen Brunson scored 30 points, Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and the Knicks erased a 14-point second-half deficit to beat the San Antonio Spurs. OG Anunoby had 17 points for New York — which has won 12 consecutive playoff games, the seventh team to have such a streak in NBA history.

Victor Wembanyama had 26 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs, but he shot 6 for 21 from the field in his finals debut. Stephon Castle scored 17, while Julian Champagnie and Dylan Harper each had 16 for the Spurs.

Game 2 is Friday in San Antonio.
