Bengal will burn remark: TMC warns MP Idris Ali

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress leadership on Thursday cautioned party MP Idris Ali for his recent comment that Bengal would burn if Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was arrested by the CBI in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam, asking him to refrain from airing such observations."The party does not support the comment made by Idris Ali. He has been asked to refrain from making such kind of comments," the TMC secretary-general and state education minister Partha Chatterjee told reporters.[caption id="attachment_2026329" align="alignleft" width="380"] Representational image. AFP[/caption]Ali was summoned to the party headquarters here and was cautioned against making such comments.On 30 December, Ali had said at a meeting at Sandeshkali in North 24-Parganas district, "Mamata Banerjee is not only the 'agnikanya' of West Bengal, but of India also. If she is touched or arrested then Bengal will be on fire. In that fire lot of people will die."Asserting that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot handle the 'agnikanya' of West Bengal, he had said that it was not a small thing that Trinamool got so many seats in the last Lok Sabha polls.The MP went on to claim in his speech that neither the Trinamool Congress nor Banerjee had any role in the Saradha scam.West Bengal transport minister Madan Mitra and two party MPs Kunal Ghosh and Srinjoy Bose have been arrested by the CBI in the multi-crore chit-fund scam.PTI
