The Lewinsky legacy: Sergey Brin, Phaneesh Murthy and other office scandals

Monica Lewinsky, the intern who had an affair with the then US President Bill Clinton that almost caused his impeachment, has come out nearly ten years after the scandal broke and written an all-exclusive in Vanity Fair.  The full piece is only available to subscribers, but the magazine has released quotes from the essay, including where she writes, “Sure, my boss took advantage of me, but I will always remain firm on this point: it was a consensual relationship.She's also written that, "“I, myself, deeply regret what happened between me and President Clinton. Let me say it again: I. Myself. Deeply. Regret. What. Happened.” The Lewinsky affair may be the most famous of the boss-subordinate sex scandals, but there have been many others since then. And while some have been more scandalous than others, almost all have inflicted some kind of collateral damage.Phaneesh Murthy's removal from iGate: When iGate President and CEO Phaneesh Murthy faced allegations of sexual harassment in May last year,  Murthy denied the charges, saying that he was in a consensual relationship with iGate employee Araceli Roiz.iGate had fired him because he had failed to disclose the relationship, which was in violation of the company's code and had also called for an enquiry into the sexual harassment charges. It was also reported that Roiz was pregnant with Murthy's child, and she alleged that when she tried to get out of the relationship, Murthy threatened her and tried to force her to have an abortion.The latest on Roiz and Murthy is that they may reach an out of court settlement.[caption id="attachment_882875" align="alignleft" width="380"]

Google co-founder Sergey Brin with Google Glass had an affair with Amanda Rosenberg. AP[/caption]David Petraeus' scandal:  General David Petraeus was forced to resign as the director of the CIA after news of his extra-marital affair with his biographer Paula Broadwell became public.Petraeus had chosen Broadwell to be his official biographer but the duo had had an affair when they were in the army. Paula was United States Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel when she first met General David Petraeus at Harvard University in 2006 and an affair had followed. What is not known is how many years it continued for.  According to reports, Broadwell used nicknames for him such as "Dangerous Dave" and "Peaches."She was later picked by the General to co-author his biography "All In: The Education of General David Petraeus". In November 2012, news of the extramarital affair became public and ultimately he was forced to resign as CIA Director.David Letterman's affairs at work:  In 2009 David Letterman found himself at the center of a public sex scandal after he came on Oprah's Show and talked about how he had had many affairs with women who had been working with him on his show.Letterman's confession came six months after he had married his second wife Regina Lasko. It was later revealed that one of the women with whom Letterman had had a sexual relationship was his longtime personal assistant Stephanie Birkitt, who often appeared with him on his show.Letterman had then tried to apologise to his wife via jokes on the show itself. At the time of the confession, Letterman had said, “I want to be the person I always thought I was and probably was pretending I was. I hurt a lot of people... I’m not looking to blame anybody. I’m looking to find out why I behaved the way I behaved.”Sergey Brin and Amanda Rosenberg: Last August news broke that Google's co-founder Sergey Brin was separating from his wife Anne Wojcicki. It was later revealed that the reason for their separation was that Brin was dating another Google employee, who was later revealed to be Amanda Rosenberg, a 26-year-old who was handling marketing for Google Glass, a product that Sergey had been seen wearing pretty much everywhere since it was made public.What made the affair even more scandalous was that Rosenberg was rumoured to be having an affair with another important Google boss, Hugo Barra, who was then Vice-President of Android. Barra, left Google around the same as Brin left his wife, though it was insisted by all parties that Sergey's new girlfriend had nothing to do with the decision. ValleyWag had reported at the  time that Rosenberg who is an avid user of Google Plus had removed all mentions of Barra from her account.Rupert Murdoch and Wendi Deng: Wendi Deng, who later go on to be the third wife of Rupert Murdoch, met her husband in 1997 when she was an employee at Stav TV in Hong Kong. Deng was 29 years old at the time, while Murdoch was 66 years old. Deng married Murdoch while he was in the middle of a divorce with second wife Anna Maria Torv Murdoch Mann, and she was also newly appointed as vice-president of STAR TV around the marriage.She shot into the spotlight in 2011, when she slapped a protestor in the house of commons who tried to throw a pie at Murdoch. He was being questioned by MPs in a parliamentary hearing over the phone-hacking scandal at the time.The couple had two children from the marriage but have now divorced. Deng is reported to have had an affair with former British PM Tony Blair, who was also a close friend of Rupert Murdoch.
