PM Modi's Instagram debut a big yawn: What he can learn from Obama, Rousseff
After conquering Twitter and becoming the most influential Indian, and the fifth most-followed world leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on Instagram.

After conquering Twitter and becoming the most influential Indian, and the fifth most-followed world leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on Instagram. The only photo that the PM has shared, is a boring giant billboard of the 25th ASEAN Summit and of the golden bordered red carpet leading upto it at the Myanmar International Convention Centre. But, since it is Modi, the picture has already received 21.7 k likes and the PM's account has 96,917 followers.Modi clearly doesn’t need help building a following, but the PM could probably do with some lessons from other global leaders who are on Instagram.Take a look:1. The profile picture: Learn from Barack Obama
Modi's profile picture on Instagram is the same that he uses on Twitter--No smile, plain boring. You are bound to think that just like the PMO handle on twitter, this will give you updates like: PM is in Myanmar, PM has started talking and such like. Yawn. In stark contrast, a look at Barack Obama's Instagram profile is bound to make you smile. In the profile picture, a happy Obama is seen with the US flag as a backdrop. Yes, flag. That may be a good idea for Modi too. Show nationalism, win followers. Obama's photos are mostly of him at dinner with his wife Michelle, holding a baby, a birthday card--and all things happy. And to make it more colourful, Obama chooses the perfect filters. The first picture that Modi shared had no filters at all. Which kind of defeats the whole purpose of Instagram.2. Pictures, selfies with your famous friends--Learn from Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff
So, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff is friends with Jennifer Lopez. How cool is that? Maybe, Modi should try this trick on Instagram. Recently, at the inauguration of a hospital in Mumbai, Bollywood went gaga over Modi and took a bunch of selfies with him. Who doesn't like being clicked with the famous Prime Minister? Maybe, Modi should put up these pictures on Instagram. We would love to see a Modi- Salman Khan selfie!3. Food pictures, please--Learn from Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong
We love staring at pictures of delicious food on Instagram. You just can't go wrong with it. Even if you are not a pro at photography, who wouldn't want to know what the PM had when he was on his Malaysia tour? Everyone! Modi should learn a lesson or two from Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong who shares pictures of his dinner with global leaders. In this particular photo where he is seen sharing a meal with his Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak, he also mentions what was there in the menu--Biryani and fish head curry. Burrp!4. Throwback Thursdays--Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta
A 20 year old picture of Modi outside the White House went viral recently, people absolutely loved seeing a younger Modi. So, Throwback Thursdays is want we want from Narendra Modi. On Thursdays, people on Instagram share old pictures with the the hashtag #ThrowbackThursday. Modi should learn a few lessons on Throwback Thursday from the Kenya President who loves sharing old, vintage black and white pictures. Modi could also learn a few tricks on how to use Instagram filters from the Kenya President.5. Be the pathbreaker, use hashtags
What Modi must know is that hashtags is one of the most important thing on Instagram-- It makes your photos easily searchable. Not too many world leaders have learnt the lesson of using hashtags on Instagram, but we are hoping Modi becomes the pathbreaker in this case. The whole Acche Din campaign is what got people on social media turn Modi into a rockstar. With every tweet, every Facebook status message and every meme, people used the hashtag #AccheDin. So, we suggest Modi should now use the same while posting his pictures on Instagram. We did a quick search on the top hashtags on Instagram, and this is what the internet said:#love #TagsForLikes #TFLers #tweegram #photooftheday #20likes #amazing #smile #follow4follow #like4like #look #instalike #igers #picoftheday #food #instadaily #instafollow #followme #girl #iphoneonly #instagood #bestoftheday #instacool #instago #all_shots #follow #webstagram #colorful #style #swag.Modi can definitely learn the hashtag lesson from our Bollywood stars. And just in case, he is thinking of posting more pictures with no filter, he should definitely use the hashtag ---#NoFilter.We are looking forward to a #cool and #stylish PM.

The 90s show Friends, and why we misread modern friendships
We’ve all heard about the loneliness epidemic at this point.
