Thinkstock[/caption]CareerExcuse is here to rescue you.Flaunting the tagline 'Internet's ONLY true site offering professional job references since 2009!', CareerExcuse runs over 200 different companies. The catch: none of them are real. They are entirely fictional. For a fee, CareerExcuse will enable you to claim that you worked for one of these companies and provide references. The company will provide you with a fake company address, local telephone numbers to give out to prospective employers, and the promise that when those prospective employers call, they'll say positive, industry-specific things about you, reports the Business Insider.William Schmidt, who founded the company after he lost his own job as part of a mass layoff, says his ruse has never been discovered by an employer and that in the last year, 90% of his members landed jobs within 90 days, reports the Forbes. The company makes it clear that they won't take on clients looking for work in government, medicine, childcare, or law enforcement - nothing where your employment would "put other people in danger", reports BI.As for the legality of the whole operation, its quite murky. As the Forbes article points out, it’s illegal to give a reference to a government employee, but the law remains unclear on other fields.
