Republic Day 2023: Interesting facts about celebration

Republic Day is commemorated every year on 26 January to mark the day the Indian Constitution came into effect. This day is celebrated with full enthusiasm across the country. One of the main attractions of the celebration is the parade in New Delhi, which begins at Rajpath and ends at India Gate. Nothing can match the feeling of pride and joy that Indians feel when they watch the Republic Day parade. On this day, the Indian President hoists the national flag at Rajpath. The Constitution of India was adopted on 26 November 1949, and this day is celebrated as the “Constitution Day” every year. Finally, the Constitution came into effect on 26 January 1950. This is the reason why Republic Day is observed on 26 January by the country.Here are some of the interesting things about Republic Day that you need to know:

• Every army personnel who takes part in the parade’s event passes through four levels of investigation. Also, their arms are checked thoroughly for ensuring that the weapons are not loaded with live bullets.
• For all the armoured vehicles, tanks, and modern equipment showcasing India’s military power, a special camp near the premises of India Gate is organised. The investigation process for every cannon and the work of whitewash is held mostly in 10 stages.
• Republic Day used to be organised at Irwin Stadium, Kingsway, Red Fort and Ramleela Maidan from 1950 to 1954. However, Rajpath became the permanent venue of the Republic Day parade after that.
• The firing of the gun salute co-occurs with the playing of the National Anthem. The first shot is fired during the National Anthem’s opening and the last shot is fired 52 seconds later.
• On Republic Day, the tableau moves at a speed of around 5 km/hour so that every person can see it.
• All the parade’s participants get ready by 2 AM and arrive at the venue by 3 AM.
• However, the preparations for the parade started in July of the previous year. The participants practice the parade till August at their related regiment centres and arrive at Delhi by December. Before their official performance on 26 January, the participants practice for 600 hours.
