Rainfall continues in Uttarakhand, key routes remain blocked

Dehradun: Most parts of Uttarakhand continued to be lashed by rains today, even as major highways remained blocked due to debris brought down by the recurring landslips.[caption id="attachment_1073943" align="alignleft" width="380"] Representational image. Reuters[/caption]Disaster Management and Mitigation Centre said no major incident was reported from any part of the state today but key routes, including the Badrinath highway, remained closed, affecting supplies to many places in Chamoli district.BRO personnel were engaged in removing debris from the road with the help of heavy stone cutting equipment and JCBs, they said.Capital Dehradun, which woke up to a sunny morning, received 40 mm of rains till this evening, the MeT department said.Light to moderate rains occurred in other places of the state, with Haldwani and Nainital receiving 14 mm of showers each, followed by Mussoorie 10 mm and Uttarkashi 8 mm, MeT office Director Anand Sharma said.According to the MeT forecast, similar weather condition is likely to prevail during the next 24 hours with possibility of light to moderate showers at most places, and rather heavy rainfall in Dehradun, Pauri, Udhamsingh Nagar and Haridwar districts.PTI
