A phone call made shortly before the death of a 25-year-old man at Pune's Lohagad Fort has become a key focus of the investigation, with police alleging that the 20-year-old woman accused in the case contacted her alleged lover and co-accused just 34 minutes before her fiancee was pushed off a cliff.

Investigators say the call, traced through Call Detail Records (CDR), is being treated as crucial digital evidence in what they allege was a pre-planned conspiracy to kill Ketan Agarwal.

Forensic analysis uncovers key call

According to sources cited by NDTV, an in-depth forensic examination of the mobile phones belonging to Siya Goyal and co-accused Chetan Chaudhary revealed the final call before the incident.

Police believe Goyal used the call to share her exact location at a viewpoint inside Lohagad Fort and informed Chaudhary that there were no other tourists nearby.

The final conversation between the two is now being regarded by Pune Rural Police's technical surveillance team as one of the strongest pieces of digital evidence in the investigation.

Police examining deleted chats

Reportedly, the accused allegedly deleted WhatsApp messages, Instagram chats and voice notes exchanged over the previous three months in an attempt to erase evidence related to the alleged murder plot.

The cyber wing is now working with forensic experts to recover the deleted conversations.

Investigators are also cross-checking the recovered data with location records and internet IP addresses from the time of the final call to build what they allege is evidence of a pre-planned murder under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.

Police allege plot was planned weeks in advance

Police allege that Siya Goyal pushed Ketan Agarwal off a cliff at Lohagad Fort in Pune on June 18 because she did not want to go ahead with their wedding scheduled for November. Chetan Chaudhary has also been named as a co-accused in the case.

According to police, Goyal's brother told investigators that she first met Chaudhary during his cricket matches and that the two later became close after reconnecting through a mutual friend.

Sources further said investigators believe the alleged murder plan had been finalised by the end of May. They also claim Goyal made an earlier attempt to push Agarwal off a cliff on June 14, but he survived after grabbing hold of a bush. Police allege she then claimed she had accidentally pushed him after being startled by a snake.

Investigators further allege that during the second attempt on June 18, Chaudhary followed the couple to Lohagad Fort to ensure Agarwal could not escape.
