PM Modi receives death threat ahead of Australia visit, probe underway: Report

Australian authorities have launched an investigation after an alleged death threat targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi surfaced on social media ahead of his scheduled visit to the country, according to a report by The Australia Today.

The alleged threat appeared in the comments section of a Facebook post promoting the "Melbourne Meets Modi" community event, which is scheduled to be held at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium on July 9.

According to the report, the comment was posted from a Facebook account using the name "Abu Mustafa" (ابو مصطفى). The message allegedly stated: "The roof tops of the stadium better close during the event or he will be coming to Australia for his death."

Investigation underway

The report said investigators have identified the IP address linked to the Facebook account as part of the ongoing probe.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has not confirmed whether any arrests have been made. The agency has also declined to comment on the investigation, citing its ongoing nature.

However, security agencies are reportedly treating the threat seriously. Multiple Australian security and law enforcement agencies are expected to coordinate security arrangements for PM Modi during his visit.

PM Modi's Australia visit

PM Modi is scheduled to visit Australia for three days, during which he will participate in bilateral meetings and community engagements, including the "Melbourne Meets Modi" event.

He is also expected to hold talks with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during the Australia-India Annual Leaders' Summit, which will be held in Melbourne from July 8 to July 10.

Announcing the summit earlier, Albanese described India as a key strategic and economic partner for Australia.

"As the world's fourth largest and fastest growing economy, India is a critical economic partner for Australia. I am honoured to welcome my friend Prime Minister Modi to Australia for our Annual Leaders' Summit," Albanese said.

The reported threat comes as security arrangements for high-profile international visits remain a priority for Australian authorities. Officials have not released further details about the investigation or any additional security measures being put in place for PM Modi's visit.
