Singapore High Commissioner to India Simon Wong won praise online after sharing his love for South Indian cuisine during a visit to Tamil Nadu, posting a photograph of himself enjoying a traditional dosai breakfast on Sunday.

Taking to X, the High Commissioner greeted followers in Tamil and revealed that he was missing food from home while spending the weekend away from Singapore.

"Kaalai Vanakkam (Good morning), friends. It's Sunday and I miss home food. Nothing like a hearty South Indian dosai to start the day. Come join me, nah," Wong wrote, adding a characteristic Singaporean touch to the invitation.

The post featured Wong seated before a plate of crisp dosai accompanied by chutneys and sambar. The lighthearted message quickly gained traction on social media, with many users appreciating the diplomat's embrace of Tamil Nadu's culinary traditions.

Beyond the viral breakfast moment, Wong's visit comes amid deepening economic engagement between Singapore and Tamil Nadu. Earlier this month, Singapore's Consul-General in Chennai, Pang Seay Chiang, met Tamil Nadu Finance Minister N Marie Wilson at the Chennai Secretariat as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Singapore's delegation, led by Wong, includes representatives from the country's Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Enterprise Singapore and the Singapore Business Federation. Discussions have focused on advancing a proposed $5-billion investment framework covering infrastructure, digital technologies, data centres and sustainability projects in Tamil Nadu.
