Aarti Hamal, the 36-year-old daughter of a mayor in Nepal, who had gone missing in Goa, was found safely after two days on Wednesday, her father Gopal Hamal confirmed.

A follower of Osho meditation, Aarti was untraceable since Monday night. She had been staying in Goa for the past few months.

Where was Goa mayor's missing daughter found?

According to a report by NDTV, Aarti was found at a hotel in North Goa's Mandrem, around 20 kms from where she went missing.

Aarti was last seen near Ashwem Beach, her father earlier said in a post on X after which a massive search operation was initiated to trace her.

"I inform all well wishers that my eldest daughter Aarti was found safely in Goa and health condition is weak due to the efforts of everyone," Gopal Hamal, Aarti's father and the mayor of Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city, said.

The NDTV report quoted a police officer saying, "On Wednesday, Aarti was found in a hotel at Chopdem village along with two other women, who are her friends.

How did Goa police find Nepal mayor's daughter?

After a missing person's complaint was filed on Tuesday, a frantic search operation was launched to hunt for Aarti. The police formed multiple teams led by senior police officers Akshat Kaushal, Pernem Jivaba Dalvi, and Inspector Sharif Jacques.

Neighbouring hospitals, several hotels, and Osho Centre at Canacona were searched extensively by the police.

The mayor's younger sister Arzoo Hamal and son-in-law, who arrived in Goa, also assisted the cops with the search.

Police said a thorough scanning of CCTV footage turned pivotal in tracing her, and she was safely located in Chopdem village in Goa within 12 hours.

What led to the delay?

A police officer said Aarti had left her phone back at the Osho centre, due to which she could not be traced with the help of technical surveillance.

Nepal mayor expresses gratitude

"I express my gratitude to all the people who helped in search work, along with the helpful Nepali brothers and sisters living in Goa," Gopal Hamal wrote in a message on Facebook.

"Along with my eldest daughter Aarti, youngest daughter Arju and son-in-law, I inform everyone that they are together," he added.
