Mumbai Airport to stop operations for 6 hours tomorrow

Tomorrow's scheduled repair work on the two runways at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will keep flight operations momentarily paused.

According to media reports, as part of an extensive post-monsoon runway maintenance plan, one of the busiest airports in the nation will close its runways for six hours on Tuesday.

"Both runways - RWY 09/27 and RWY 14/32 - will be temporarily non-operational on 17th October 2023, from 1100 hrs to 1700 hrs," the airport operator said in a statement.

According to the CSMIA, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was sent to airlines and other interested parties six months ago.

According to the CSMIA, the major goal of the planned shutdown is to carry out the necessary repairs and maintenance to maintain the airport's infrastructure to the highest standards.

"This yearly practice of runway maintenance post monsoons is a part of the series of activities undertaken with precision and meticulous efforts, ensuring operational continuity and passenger safety, thus bringing to life to vision of imbibing passenger first approach at the core of our operations," it said.

Flights have also been planned by the airport so as to guarantee the "smooth" completion of the maintenance work.
