Lucknow: Class IX student collapses during chemistry lesson, dies of suspected heart attack

In a sad and unusual event, a teenager studying in class IX at Lucknow's City Montessori School passed away after collapsing during a chemistry lesson on Wednesday. Doctors suspect that Atif Siddiqui, the student in question, may have succumbed to a heart attack.

Initially, he was taken to a nearby medical facility and subsequently referred to the cardiology department at KGMU. Unfortunately, the medical team at KGMU pronounced him deceased. His body was later sent for a postmortem examination.

During the chemistry class, taught by Nadeem Khan, fellow students raised the alarm when Atif suddenly fainted. Khan, who was assisting another student with a problem, rushed to Atif's side, administered CPR, and provided mouth-to-mouth oxygen, but Atif did not respond. They promptly summoned the school nurse, and together they transported Atif to a nearby private hospital, from where he was referred to KGMU.

Rishi Khanna, the spokesperson for City Montessori School, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He explained that Atif had been rushed to a nearby medical facility by his teacher and the school nurse, with his father also informed and arriving at the medical center.

Despite repeated attempts at CPR, when Atif failed to regain consciousness, doctors suggested the possibility of a heart attack and recommended immediate transfer to KGMU. An ambulance, equipped with an oxygen cylinder, quickly transported Atif to KGMU, where medical professionals, sadly, confirmed his demise.

The school said it is prepared to fully cooperate with any subsequent investigations.

Dr. Akshay Pradhan from KGMU's cardiology department reported, "The child had passed away by the time he reached the hospital. The exact cause of death will be determined through the postmortem report."
