Jewar airport opens for business as first IndiGo flight touches down

IndiGo's inaugural flight from Lucknow landed at 7:55 am, officially launching commercial operations at India's newest international airport

Commercial flight operations have officially kicked off at the newly built Noida International Airport (DXN) in Jewar.

The milestone was marked by the successful arrival of the airport’s first scheduled commercial passenger flight, IndiGo flight 6E-2278, which touched down smoothly at 7:55 am. The inaugural flight had departed from Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport at 7:05 am.

A special inbound passenger list

To celebrate the historic landing, the inaugural flight from the state capital carried a unique group of passengers. Accompanying Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh were 170 local farmers and agricultural workers, including 20 women, whose lands were acquired to make the mega-airport project a reality.

The flight served as a gesture of appreciation, with the group scheduled to meet Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to express gratitude for the region's massive economic transformation.

Onward to Bengaluru

Following a brief stopover at the newly minted terminal, the IndiGo aircraft boarded its next set of passengers and took off for the southern tech hub of Bengaluru at 8:35 am. The flight is scheduled to land at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport at 11:05 am, officially establishing the airport’s first outbound commercial connection.

On its return leg later this evening, flight 6E-2279 will fly from Bengaluru back to Jewar, before heading onwards to Lucknow to wrap up day one of operations.

The operationalisation of Jewar Airport, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28 following the receipt of its DGCA aerodrome license, seeks to heavily decongest Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). It offers a seamless, closer alternative for millions of travelers residing across Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and the wider Western Uttar Pradesh region.

Equipped with advanced AI-surveillance and biometric DigiYatra systems, Phase 1 is built to handle 12 million passengers annually.
