Jaipur: Norwegian tourist, under influence of 'bhang,' mistakes firecracker sounds for mass shooting, jumps Balcony

In a bizarre incident on Thursday-Friday night, a 33-year-old Norwegian visitor, Noe Finn Vetle, jumped from the the hotel balcony he was staying in Jaipur after mistaking sounds of fire crackers for gunshots. Vetle was reportedly under influence of 'Bhang'. According to the reports, Vetle was residing on the third floor of a hotel in Vivek Vihar and the sound of gunshots came from Janmashtami celebration taking place in the temples nearby. Believing the sounds to be gunfire and the chants as cries for help, he rushed out of his room and impulsively jumped from the balcony.Around 12:30 am on Friday, authorities at the Hare Krishna Temple in Jagatpura received radio reports that the Jawahar Circle Police Station was responding to an incident involving a foreign national found on the street outside a hotel. Due to concerns related to the ongoing G20 event, which could have caused embarrassment, the police officials swiftly rushed to the scene.Adding to the confusion, local residents reported that Vetle was uttering incoherent phrases like 'fire' and 'help.' He was subsequently taken to Jaipuria Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment for various injuries, including a fractured hand. However, DCP (East) Gyan Chandra Yadav has assured that Vetle's condition is stable.In an effort to determine the cause of Vetle's alarming actions, the police conducted an examination of the scene but found no evidence of gunfire. After conversing with the tourist and reviewing CCTV footage, it was established that the loud noises were merely the result of extensive firecracker displays at the stroke of midnight.DCP Yadav stated, "We have also notified the Norwegian embassy regarding the situation." Vetle, who had arrived in India three months earlier to partake in yoga sessions, hails from Namsos, Norway.
