Iran's Ghadir Nezami arrives in New Delhi for Brics NSA meeting chaired by Ajit Doval

Ghadir Nezami, the Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, arrived in the Indian capital on Monday to participate in the two-day meeting of Brics National Security Advisers (NSAs) and Heads of Security Agencies.

The visit was confirmed by the Iranian Embassy in India on social media platform X. Officials noted that Nezami is slated to attend several specialised security sessions and engage in bilateral sideline meetings with senior representatives from participating nations. 

Targeting 'non-traditional' warfare

The summit, hosted by India as part of its fourth Brics Chairship, is being chaired by Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), this year’s core agenda focuses heavily on a central theme: "Non-traditional security challenges confronting the world today." Rather than strictly focusing on conventional military frontiers, the expanded 11-member bloc will tackle invisible, rapidly evolving threats.

Key areas of review and deliberation include the rising threat of artificial intelligence in orchestrating mass disinformation campaigns, alongside the regulation of commercial drones and encrypted messaging networks by non-state actors, establishing protocols to protect the sovereign digital infrastructure of the Global South, and reviewing recent findings from the BRICS Joint Working Groups regarding cross-border terror financing and the illicit use of cryptocurrency.

Nezami's arrival comes at a time of immense geopolitical interest. Brics has recently expanded to incorporate major West Asian economies, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

"India’s 2026 chairship is guided by the philosophy of 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.' This forum serves as an essential alternative framework for governance, security, and economic collaboration outside traditional Western remits," the MEA stated.

With high-weight security figures in attendance—including Russian security chief Sergei Shoigu and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi—the New Delhi meeting is anticipated to lay down structural protocols for how emerging economies will collectively govern cyberspace and fight cross-border syndicates over the next decade.
