Interim CBI chief Nageswara Rao apologises to SC for transferring officer probing Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case without approval

New Delhi: Former interim CBI Chief M Nageswara Rao on Monday offered an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court for transferring AK Sharma, the officer investigating the Muzaffarpur shelter home case, without consent from the apex court. "I ought not have agreed with the legal advice for relieving AK Sharma even on his promotion without prior approval of Supreme Court," said Rao in his apology.[caption id="attachment_5542981" align="alignleft" width="380"]

AP[/caption]Last week on Thursday, Supreme Court sought personal appearance on 12 February of former interim CBI director M Nageswara Rao and one other official, in-charge of Director Prosecution, associated in the transfer of central investigative agency officer AK Sharma. Earlier on the same day, the apex court transferred the trial of the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case from Bihar to a Delhi court and ordered the judge to complete the trial within six months.More than 40 minor girls were allegedly sexually assaulted over a period of time in the shelter home which was run by state-funded NGO by Brajesh Thakur. Subsequently, the NGO was blacklisted and the girls were shifted to other shelter homes in Patna and Madhubani.The accused Brajesh Thakur is currently lodged in the Patiala jail after the Supreme Court on 25 October, 2018 ordered the transfer of Thakur to a jail outside Bihar saying that he is an influential man and is obstructing the investigation.
