'Indian Navy at forefront in self-reliance': Rear Admiral (retd.) Rahul Shrawat at Firstpost Defence Conclave

The Navy set up its design directorate called ‘The Directorate of Navel Design’ and started working on small projects. The Indian Navy among the three Services has been at the forefront in achieving self-reliance, said Rear Admiral Rahul Kumar Shrawat (Retd.), adding that Indian-made weapons are more than good enough compared to those made by other nations.

Speaking at 'Firstpost Defence Summit: 2024' on how the Indian Navy successfully achieved atmanirbharta a long time back, he said that more than 100 warships have been made indigenously following the design prepared by the ‘Warship Design Bureau’.

Earlier today, the Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande while speaking at Firstpost Defence Summit, said that the Indian army remains completely aligned with the vision of making India a self-reliant nation. The technology is imperative for the nation’s security, he added.

Terming the year 2024 as the year of technology absorption, General Pande said that there is a lot to do on this front to become self-reliant in defence. “Several initiatives have been taken to handhold the industry towards building trust. Technology is producing cutting-edge military hardware with modern technology. Currently, we have around 350 industries working towards fructification of contracts by 2025," he said.
