One terrorist was gunned down in an exchange of fire that broke out between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.


A gunfight broke out between militants and security forces in Sopore town of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police said. AFP[/caption]The encounter broke out in Malmapanpora area of Sopore town, which comes under Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.On specific information about the presence of militants in Sopore, security forces launched a cordon and search operation, a police official said. He said as the forces were conducting searches in the area, the hiding militants fired upon them. The forces retaliated, ensuing a gunfight, the official said.The area was cordoned off by the security forces and the operation is underway.With inputs from agencies
