Cast away: Brand new Audi Q3 found floating in sea off Kovalam beach

The scenes at the sea near Kovalam on Thursday were fit for an opening sequence of a Sherlock Holmes episode.An abandoned Audi Q3 was found floating near Chennai’s Kovalam beach in early hours by fishermen. The car, which costs at least Rs 30 lakhs was found bobbing on the water, reports the Quint.[caption id="attachment_2329414" align="alignleft" width="380"] Twitter @NabanitaSRoy[/caption]Kelambakkam police along with coastal security officers rushed to the spot and pulled the car out of the sand with the help of the fishermen.A wallet was later discovered inside the car bearing the name ‘Dennis Joshua Kingshlin’. “We traced the car owner — Williams Garry, a real estate businessman. He visited the spot but did not make it clear how the car got washed away. We have registered a case under CrPC section 102 as unclaimed property," said the police in a statement to the New Indian Express.Although the details are not yet clear, according to the reports, the car was used on Wednesday by William's relative Joshua. On his way back, Joshua stopped the car near MGM beach resort and left the motor running to attend to nature's call.He saw two men on a motorcycle stop near the car. One of them got down from the bike and drove the car away, while the other followed him. Police said the miscreants, who could have been drunk, took the car to the beach and later abandoned it after it got stuck in the sand, reports TOI.The car was left completely damaged, and the owner refused to take it. The insurance agency has also refused to pick up the insurance claim. A case of unclaimed property was registered at the Kelambakkam police station, reports the Deccan Chronicle.
