Biparjoy likely to hit Gujarat coast on 15 June as 'Very Severe Cyclonic Storm': IMD
The IMD has advised total suspension of fishing operations in the region till 15 June and has asked fishermen to not venture into central Arabian sea. The exact place where it will make landfall will become clearer in coming days

The Indian Meteorological Department on Sunday said that Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to hit the Gujarat coast on 15 June.According to IMD, Biparjoy is very likely to move nearly northwards and reach near Pakistan and adjoining Saurashtra and Kutch coasts as a "very severe cyclonic storm.""It is likely to intensify into an extremely severe cyclonic storm during next 06 hours. It is very likely to move nearly northwards and reach near Pakistan and adjoining Saurashtra and Kutch coasts around afternoon of 15th June, 2023 as a very severe cyclonic storm," the IMD added.Earlier, senior IMD scientist DS Pai said the exact place where it will make landfall will become clearer in the coming days.Meanwhile, the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has issued a 'red alert' and 'emergency guidelines' for the security of ships and port facilities due to VSCS "Biparjoy." The KPT said that the shipping activities will remain suspended, according to an ARY News report.On 15 June, squally wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph is very likely to prevail along and off Saurashtra coast, the IMD said.Sea conditions along and off Saurashtra and Kutch coasts will likely remain "rough to very rough" till Wednesday, and very rough to high on Thursday, it said.IMD advises total suspension of fishing activitiesThe IMD has advised total suspension of fishing operations in the region till 15 June and has asked fishermen to not venture into central Arabian sea, north Arabian sea during 12-15 June, and along and off Saurashtra-Kutch coasts till 15 June.It further advised those out at sea to return to coast and regulate offshore and onshore activities judiciously."In view of the above, the state governments are advised to keep a close watch, monitor the situation in their areas regularly and take appropriate precautionary measures. District authorities are advised accordingly," the IMD said.There has been considerable uncertainty in the track and intensity of cyclone Biparjoy since it developed on 6 June.
