‘Good governance has won’: PM Modi hails Bihar victory NDA wins two-thirds majority

Hailing the victory in the 2025 Bihar assembly election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that good governance has won in the state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has won more than two-thirds majority in the assembly.

As per the latest information, the NDA was ahead on 205 of 243 seats — reducing the Opposition's INDIA bloc to 33 seats.

In a post on X, Modi said, "Good governance has won. Development has won. Pro-people spirit has won. Social justice has won. Gratitude to each and every person of Bihar for blessing the NDA with a historical and unparalleled victory in the 2025 Vidhan Sabha elections. This mandate gives us renewed strength to serve the people and work for Bihar."

Modi thanked party workers and allies for their work that has brought the victory to NDA. He said the mandate of the result of all-round development.

"People voted for us on the basis of our track record and our vision to take the state to newer heights. I would like to congratulate CM Nitish Kumar Ji and our allies from the NDA family, Chirag Paswan Ji, Jitan Ram Manjhi Ji and Upendra Kushwaha Ji, on this unparalleled victory," said Modi.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is expected to return for another term. He has been the chief minister of Bihar continuously since 2005 except for a brief stretch of nine months between 2014 and 2015. This will be his 10th stint as the chief minister.

Among the NDA, the BJP was ahead on 93 sets, Nitish's Janata Dal-United (JD-U) on 83, Lok Janshakti Party-Ram Vilas (LJP-RV) on 20, and Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular (HAM-S) on five, according to the latest tally at CNN-News 18.

As for the INDIA bloc, the Rashtriya Janata Dal's (RJD) seats have fallen from 75 in the previous 2020 election to 25 and Congress has been reduced to single digits —four— from 19.

On the other hand, non-aligned All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) of Asaduddin Owaisi has won five seats — up from zero in the previous elections.
