Bangalore cops issue new guidelines to schools on students' security

Following the heinous rape of a six-year-old girl by a staff member at a Bangalore school recently, the police has issued fresh guidelines to schools in the Karnataka capital to ensure security of the children enrolled in them. A report in the CNN-IBN said: "In an order to all schools to implement these guidelines, Bangalore Police Commissioner MN Reddi has said that schools will be prosecuted under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) if they fail to follow the guidelines."[caption id="attachment_1636155" align="alignleft" width="380"] Securing the students. AFP[/caption]Issued under the Karnataka Police Act, the schools must comply by the guidelines by 31 August. These steps include that "all school buses should have GPS and CCTV cameras, CCTV cameras should be installed in perimeters of the school". The schools must also have floor vigilance officers."The police has told the schools that the bus drivers should not be allowed to mingle with children beyond a limit. Sports facility has been asked to be limited only for the authorised staff members. To ensure safety, the police said that the parents should be issued ID cards to pick up their kids and if the parents in case can't pick them up, they should send an SMS to an authorized person for the same"—the CNN-IBN report said.
