Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has resigned as the Chief Minister of Delhi.

Kejriwal reached Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena's residence on Tuesday afternoon and submitted him the resignation.

Following Kejriwal's resignation, Atishi has staked claimed to form the government, according to CNN-News 18.

Earlier in the day, AAP MLAs unanimously elected Atishi as the next chief minister after Kejriwal proposed her name. She is a senior minister in the Delhi governments and holds education and public works departments among other portfolios.

The party picked Atishi as the next chief minister days after Kejriwal announced he would resign and seek early elections in Delhi. After walking out of jail on bail in the Delhi excise policy case on Friday, Kejriwal said he would only attend office after receiving the “certificate of honesty” from people of Delhi in elections.
