'My wife is wonderful, I love staring at her': Anand Mahindra on his social media activities
Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra talked about the workhour debate at the the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2025 days after L&T Chairman SN Subrahmanyan stirred controversy

Anand Mahindra, Chairperson of Mahindra Group, took a jibe at Larsen & Toubro's (L&T) Chairman SN Subrahmanyan's "90-hour workweek" comment on Saturday, saying that the emphasis should be on the quality of work and not on the quantity of work.
In a conversation with Firstpost's Managing Editor Palki Sharma at the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2025, Mahindra talked about how he manages his time to maintain a strong presence on social media.
He said, "I often get asked how much time I have to spend on social media. I want to tell people that I am on X or social media not because I am lonely. My wife is wonderful, I love staring at her. So, I am not here to make friends, I am here because social media is an amazing business tool."
Earlier this week, Subrahmanyan stirred controversy by suggesting employees should work 90 hours a week, including on Sundays. "What do you do sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife? How long can wives stare at their husbands? Go to the office and start working," the L&T chairperson said.
'Should focus on quality of work'
Giving two cents on the long workhour debate that has kept netizens busy, and has been supported by Infosys co-founder Narayan Murthy, Mahindra said, "I think this debate is in the wrong direction because it is quantity of work. My point is it should about about the quality of work. It is not about 40 hours or 90 hours, what output are you doing even if it is 10 hours?"
"If you are not spending time at home or with friends and if you are not reading and don't have time to reflect, how will you bring the inputs into making the right decisions?" he added.
He further said that one can only make good decisions when they have a holistic life and that "people cannot be in a tunnel all the time."
