Aligarh school: Children rushed to hospital after having expired biscuits

A case has been registered on Saturday against a school at Harduaganj town in Aligarh district after a number of students were taken ill following consumption of expired biscuits distributed to them on the occasion of Independence Day.

A case has been registered on Saturday against a school at Harduaganj town in Aligarh district after a number of students were taken ill following consumption of expired biscuits distributed to them on the occasion of Independence Day.The children, studying in Gyandeep Shishu Mandir Public School, had to be rushed to different hospitals, including the Deen Dayal Hospital in the district after they complained of nausea, police said. On receiving this information, senior officials led by the district magistrate Rajiv Routela rushed to the government hospital to monitor the emergency medical treatment of the victims, all in the age group of six and 16 years.[caption id="attachment_1040895" align="alignleft" width="380"]File picture of a Midday meal scheme has been used for representational purposes only. Reuters.[/caption]Routela said that preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the biscuits had been provided as a promotional offering by a well known factory of the country on the occasion of the Republic Day earlier this year.The biscuits offered on August 15, were left over from this year's Republic Day celebrations. The DM added that on Saturday an FIR had been filed against the school authorities by the family of one of the children.PTI
