An Air India Express flight bound for Jeddah from Kannur turned back on Tuesday morning after pilots detected a technical issue around two hours into the journey, airport sources said.

The aircraft, carrying more than 180 passengers, had departed from Kannur Airport at 7.40 am before the crew decided to return as a precaution.

"The flight landed safely in Kannur. We will know what the problem is hereafter," the sources said.
