Vaibhav Sooryavanshi speaks on his ultimate vision after receiving historic India call-up: 'I want to dominate and...'

Vaibhav Sooravanshi dominated headlines on Saturday after being announced as part of the Indian men's senior team for the upcoming T20 tour in Ireland and England. It marked a historic milestone for the 15-year-old, who was rewarded for his breakthrough performance in the 2026 Indian Premier League.

The 15-year-old left-handed opener from Bihar surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's age record, becoming the youngest Indian to receive a maiden India call-up.

Vaibhav wants to dominate

In a special interview with the Rajasthan Royals, Vaibhav expressed his aspiration to be remembered as a dominant match-winner for decades. He emphasised that his goal is not just to dominate consistently but to deliver results through hard work, passion, and performance, and to enjoy cricket while excelling at it.

“I have thought that for the next 20 years, as long as God gives me the chance to play for my country, for a franchise and for a team, I want to play in a way that people remember. Whenever people think of matches, they should say that whenever this player played, he could finish the match on his own.

“That dominance should be seen because I am working hard for that. Not just playing and finishing games. I want to dominate for 10-20 years and play good cricket. I started cricket because I enjoy it. So I want to enjoy my life and play well,” Vaibhav said.

Vaibhav stays committed to Test cricket

While Vaibhav has already made strides in T20 cricket and impressed in ODIs, he also expressed his commitment to the game’s longest format.

The 15-year-old revealed that he has played red‑ball cricket extensively for his domestic side and intends to continue, adapting his batting style to the demands of each format.

“A lot of people think about whether I want to play red-ball cricket or not. So I answered that. Sir, I have practised a lot with the red ball. For my state, I have played a lot with the red ball. And I want to play red-ball cricket because I practise red-ball cricket.

This is why I bat in this format because this is the need in this format. I will change my batting according to the requirements of red-ball cricket. I will change according to the needs of ODIs. My dream is to play in all three formats,” the 15-year-old added.

Sooryavanshi is currently on tour as part of the India 'A' team for the tri-series against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A, starting Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
