Pat Cummins takes the heat as KKR snaps SRH’s winning streak: 'My over made a difference'

Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins took the rap after the Kolkata Knight Riders snapped their winning streak by securing a commanding seven-wicket victory on Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. He further admitted it wasn't the best day for the franchise.

SRH were riding high on a five-match winning streak as they marched into their den at Uppal to face KKR in match one of the Sunday doubleheader. But the Knight Riders showed consistency and poise, something they lacked earlier in the season, to defeat the Sunrisers in the reverse fixture.

Cummins expressed that while SRH started well, they dropped momentum in the second half of the innings. They had targeted around 200 but ended up with fewer runs as the pitch slowed down, and KKR used it to their advantage.

He further admitted that his expensive 27-run over was costly, and they ultimately lost due to fine margins going against them.

"Not our best day. We had a pretty good start, but then we weren't at our sharpest. Probably aimed for 200 and then 180, but it wasn't meant to be. You just need to adapt. The first 8-10 overs were excellent, but they used the match-ups well, and the second half wasn't good. It dried up and slowed down; we probably should have aimed at 180.

"The margins are small, we did show some good things, fought till the end, my over costing 27 probably made a difference, but we did have our moments, and the fine margins went against us," Cummins said at post-match.

KKR seal third-straight win in IPL 2026

The Kolkata Knight Riders looked in complete sync, showing none of the inconsistency issues that had plagued them in the past. A brilliant catching effort from Rovman Powell stole the show as SRH lost frequent wickets, which derailed their momentum.

After the Sunrisers were restricted to 165, the Knight Riders' top-order started the chase well, with Finn Allen's blazing 29-run cameo and Ajinkya Rahane scoring 43. Angkrish Raghuvanshi picked up a solid 59 off 47, while the in-form remained unbeaten at 22, and Rinku Singh sealed the winning runs for KKR, sealing their third-straight victory.
