England fast bowler Mark Wood has revealed stunning details about an Indian Premier League (IPL) owner going to extraordinary lengths in a bid to get him on the field when he was injured.

Wood, known for touching 150 kmph consistently when fit, has played only two seasons in IPL. He played only once for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2018 before turning up four times for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in 2023.

Wood's stunning revelation

In an astonishing revelation, Wood said that an owner kept checking on him when he was injured. The owner also was ready to arrange a private plane for the pacer to play the match and then return quickly to the hotel to help with his recovery.

"I wasn't very well after about five games, and the (next) game was in about three days' time. Every half an hour, the doctor would stay back, come to my room, check on my vitals. I remember one day the owner ringing me, 'How're you feeling? Ready to go?' and I said, 'Honestly, I've eaten and drunk nothing, I still can't get out of bed'. He went, 'We'll get you another doctor, we'll do this and that'," revealed Wood on a BBC podcast.

"Next day, it's the owner again, 'How are you feeling?', and I said, 'Honestly, I'm still not good'. He then said, 'I'll send a private plane, you get in the plane, play the game. Then I'll get the plane straight back out and get you back to your bedside'," Wood said.

Wood said he seriously considered the offer but ultimately rejected it due to his fitness issues.

An injury prone fast bowler, Wood was on fire during the 2023 IPL for LSG where he picked up 11 wickets in four matches including his T20 career-best 5/14. Wood has played 146 times for England and has 253 international wickets.
