IND vs AFG: Manav Suthar achieves rare record on Test debut with first-over wicket

Manav Suthar attained an uncommon achievement during the India vs Afghanistan one-off Test in New Chandigarh (Mullanpur) on Sunday. The debutant spinner picked up a wicket in his opening over of his Test career, becoming the first Indian to do so since Tinu Yohannan in 2001.

In the fourth ball of the sixth over during Afghanistan's innings, Suthar dismissed opener Abdul Malik, who attempted to slog it out of desperation and got a top edge, with the ball flying left to wicketkeeper KL Rahul.

Mohammed Siraj completed the catch after running in from behind square on the leg side, handing Suthar his first-ever dismissal in Test cricket.

Manav Suthar joins rare list of Indians after first-over wicket

After Suthar struck with his fourth ball in Test cricket, he joined a rare list of Indians which includes cricketers like Yohannan (2001), Nilesh Kulkarni (1997), WV Raman (1988), Chetan Sharma (1984), and Vaman Kumar (1961).

Suthar continued his wicket-taking spree by dismissing Rahmanulag Gurbaz in the 20th over. The Afghan batter looked to defend the delivery, and his bat hit the ground as he edged the shot.

The ball travelled low towards Sai Sudharsan, who was at second slip, and he completed the catch with both hands to send Gurbaz packing. Suthar nabbed his third wicket after dismissing Afzal Zazai.

Suthar delivers as IND maintain stronghold over AFG

Suthar delivered an impressive 3/21 spell during Afghanistan's innings as India maintained its authority on momentum in Mullanpur. India declared at 564/8 following Washington Sundar's composed half-century, with Suthar also putting up 28 off 41 deliveries.

The Men in Blue's bowling attack shook AFG's top order with timely dismissals as the visitors reached 113/5 at stumps on day two.
