BCCI punishes Kyle Jamieson for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi aggressive send-off in DC vs RR match

Delhi Capitals pacer Kyle Jamieson has been handed one demerit point and warned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after his aggressive celebration against 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The rising teenager suffered a rare failure on Friday as he was dismissed for just four runs in two balls by New Zealand pacer Jamieson.

Sooryavanshi, who had earned a reputation for hitting some of the best bowlers for sixes on the first ball or in the first over, got out in the second over of the IPL 2026 match in Jaipur. Sooryavanshi was trying to smash a full toss when an under-edge cleaned up his stumps.

BCCI pulls up Jamieson after Sooryavanshi celebration

Pumped by the early dismissal, Jamieson was seen giving an intimidating send-off to the youngster, which has been criticised by cricket experts and fans.

Former domestic star Priyank Panchal felt a 31-year-old overseas cricketer trying to sledge a 15-year-old Indian batter was a poor sight.

“31-year-old Kyle Jamieson giving a 15-year-old kid a send-off after dismissing him. Does not make for a pretty sight. But also shows how much of an impact and fear Vaibhav has instilled amongst the opponents already,” Panchal wrote on X.

The BCCI has also decided to punish Jamieson for his extravagant celebration. Not necessarily due to the age gap, but because aggressive celebrations are against the game rules.

Jamieson has been found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, and as a result, he was handed one demerit point and warned by the BCCI.

Coming to the match, DC clinched a crucial win by beating RR as they successfully completed a 226-run chase with five balls to spare.

After Riyan Parag smashed 90, KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka scored 75 and 62, respectively, to help the Delhi Capitals jump to sixth place in the IPL 2026 points table.
