The exclusive club Nikhil Chaudhary could join: India-born cricketers who played for Australia

Australia have called-up India-born all-rounder Nikhil Chaudhary to the T20I side, replacing Travis Head for the series against Bangladesh. If Nikhil Chaudhary gets a match in the series, he will become the first Indian-born man to play for Australia in more than 60 years.

Overall, three Indian-born cricketers have represented Australia across men's and women's competitions, including Lisa Sthalekar. The first one was Bransby Cooper, who was part of the first-ever Test. The second and the last India-born man to play for Australia was Rex Sellers.

Bransby Cooper

Long before cricket became a global sport, Bransby Cooper had already carved out a place in history. Born in Dacca, then part of British India, Cooper later moved to Australia and was selected for the inaugural Test match against England in Melbourne in 1877.

While his international career was brief, Cooper remains a significant figure in cricket history as one of the earliest India-born players to represent Australia and a member of the team that took part in the sport's first Test match.

Rex Sellers

The next India-born cricketer to wear Australian colours arrived nearly 90 years later.

Born in Bulsar (now Valsad) in Gujarat in 1940, Rex Sellers migrated to Australia as a child and built a strong reputation in domestic cricket. His performances earned him a Test debut against England in 1964.

Lisa Sthalekar

Born in Pune in 1979, Lisa Sthalekar moved to Australia as an infant and developed into one of the country's greatest all-rounders. Across a career spanning more than a decade, she won multiple World Cups, captained Australia and became one of the most respected figures in women's cricket.

Her achievements were later recognised with induction into the ICC Hall of Fame, cementing her place among the legends of the game.
