Harmanpreet Kaur shuts down reporter’s retirement query with a witty comeback: 'You think I should stop?'

Team India captain Harmanpreet Kaur delivered a clever shut-down response to a reporter who queried about her retirement. She had an awkward smile before dropping a witty retort, prompting laughter among those present at the event.

The moment occurred at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup launch event on Waterloo Bridge in London, where the captains of the participating teams were addressing the media.

Harmanpreet claps back at reporter with witty response

During the press conference, Harmanpreet was asked about her future in the game and if she had any thoughts about retirement and whether it would be her last World Cup appearance. She questioned the reporter back, asking, "Why?"

When the reporter responded that he was 'just checking', Harmanpreet followed up, saying, “Do you think I should stop?” The reporter said, "Not at all", to which the 37-year-old responded, "Why are you asking then?”

The Indian skipper's follow-up response triggered further laughter during the media session.

The ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 would be the biggest-ever, with the board expanding team participation to 12 for the first time. New Zealand would be defending the title after winning in 2024.

The Indian cricket team has been placed in Group A alongside dominant sides such as Australia, Bangladesh, Netherlands, arch-rivals Pakistan and South Africa.

The Indian cricket team are yet to win the women's T20 crown after finishing as runners-up in 2020 and semifinalists in 2022. The Women in Blue are coming off a historic victory at the Cricket World Cup last year and would be keen to get their hands on the title.
