Shubman Gill pinpoints exact moment GT turned game around vs RCB: 'When Virat bhai…'

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill opened up after his team’s win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in (Indian Premier League) IPL 2026, revealing the exact moment when his side felt they had made a comeback in the game.

Gill said the turning point came early in the first innings, when RCB's veteran batter Virat Kohli attacked Kagiso Rabada aggressively in the powerplay and hit him for five consecutive boundaries. Kohli was dismissed an over later.

“Feels very satisfying. On a wicket like this, restricting them to under 160 was a tremendous job by the bowlers. Energy in the field was very nice, and how we came back together after the second over when Virat bhai hit us was pleasing," Gill said.

Kohli had given RCB a strong start, scoring 28 off just 13 balls and hitting boundaries at will, putting GT under early pressure. However, the Gujarat bowlers managed to pull things back quickly and kept the total to a manageable 155.

Gill on his batting

Gill also spoke about his own batting, saying he felt in control from the beginning of his innings. “I was just feeling I was in the zone. On the first ball, got a bit lucky but on the second ball, got into my zone. Felt it is my day and wanted to take the bowlers on,” he said.

Chasing 156, GT got off to a flying start with Gill leading from the front, scoring a quick 43 off 18 balls. Jos Buttler also played an important knock of 39, helping Gujarat stay ahead in the chase.

Although GT lost a few wickets in the middle overs, Rahul Tewatia showed his finishing ability to help them reach the target in 15.5 overs. Gill praised him for closing out the game calmly. “He is a very important player, happy he finished the game. We lost couple more wickets than we would have liked, but he got some nice runs,” Gill added.

Gujarat Titans eventually won the match by four wickets. The win helped them gain two important points as the tournament heads towards the crucial final phase, with a few teams stacked together and net run rate possibly playing a role.
