Writing's On The Wall: Sam Smith's theme song for upcoming James Bond film is a forgettable one

The new James Bond theme song, Writing's On The Wall, is out and it might be one of the most forgettable ones in recent memory.Grammy award winner Sam Smith is the first British male solo singer to sing the 007 theme since Tom Jones sang Thunderball in 1965.[caption id="attachment_2445894" align="alignleft" width="380"] Sam Smith. Twitter @samsmithworld[/caption]With Smith on a roll in the past months, the initial announcement that he will be taking charge of the new theme song created quite a buzz, and rightly so. But the song may disappoint many.

"I've been here before / But always hit the floor / I've spent a lifetime running And I always get away / But with you I'm feeling something / That makes me want to stay I'm prepared for this / I never shoot to miss / But I feel like a storm is coming If I'm gonna make it through the day / Then there's no use in running / This is something I gotta face"

These are just the opening lyrics of the song which feel bland and full of cliches. "I wrote new the Bond theme in 20 minutes," Smith had said a few weeks back in an interview, and it shows.Smith had talked about the pressure he felt covering the Bond song in an interview with Mirror. "The pressure to deliver a Bond song that stands against all the rest feels quite intense," the British singer told the newspaper.The 23-year-old also added that the movie's director Sam Mendes had a say over the song's lyrics and made sure that Bond "didn't sound weak, that he still sounded powerful." But the song never manages to build up tension and fails to give any character to the upcoming Bond film, unlike Adele's Skyfall for the last movie.The release comes about a month before Spectre, starring Daniel Craig as Bond, which will see worldwide release on 6 November.The song is out on iTunes and you can listen to it here.
