Watch: New trailer of Jennifer Lawrence's Passengers has her fighting for survival
Is The Passengers going to be a space-age Hunger Games?

Christmas week 2016 is going to bring cine-goers a lot of cheer. Along with the Star Wars franchise Rogue One, La La Land starring Hollywood darlings Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone is going to brighten up the festive holiday season. We also have the universally loved Jennifer Lawrence's sci-fi film The Passengers.[caption id="attachment_3122060" align="alignleft" width="380"]
A still from the trailer.[/caption]Directed by Morten Tyldum, the film sees Lawrence and Chris Pratt play travelers on an interstellar spaceship bound for a new planet set for human colonisation.Unfortunately, their hibernation pods are mistakenly deactivated, leaving them awake and trapped a full 90 years away from their destination; as they deal with their grim new situation, the pair slowly fall in love while attempting to prevent the imminent collapse of their ship.Though the film is being projected as 'an interstellar love story'; this trailer makes it look more like a sci-fi adventure with plenty of explosions, space shots and we see the pair fighting for survivial. Is it going to be a space-age Hunger Games? The film script has been on the list of Black List's best of un-filmed scripts since 2007. Norweigian film director Morten Tyldum tells Entertainment Weekly, "It’s one of those stories that really grabs you and you fall in love with it. It’s very smart and funny and clever and such a page-turner I couldn’t put it down. Every 10 pages, something new happens. At the same time, it’s a very intimate movie while taking place on this epic scale."Tyldum, who has already worked on films like Headhunters and The Imitation Game; is already an expert with science fiction. The film is being penned by American screen-writer Jon Spaihts (of Prometheus fame), so there's a lot to look forward to when the film releases on 21 December 2016.Here's the new trailer:
