Watch: Lorde's new song is a personal, bleak take on her first hearbreak
Lorde's first heartbreak song is a thumbs up, and a green light.

Lorde debuted her new single 'Green Light,' and its Grant Singer-directed new video. The song is from her upcoming album Melodrama, the highly anticipated follow-up to her 2013 debut Pure Heroine. In an interview with Zane Lowe, Lorde described the 'Green Light' concept: "This is that drunk girl at the party dancing around crying about her ex-boyfriend who everyone thinks is a mess."Lorde debuted the song and the album name in an Instagram post:She goes on to say that the new song is about her first major heartbreak, something she is not used to writing about. She told Lowe, "The song is really about those moments kind of immediately after your life changes and about all the silly little things that you gravitate towards. I say, 'She thinks you love the beach, you’re such a liar.' What the fuck, she thinks you like the beach?! You don’t like the beach! It’s those little stupid things."Co-penned by Jack Antonoff, 'Green Light' is towering because of the tiny details surrounding its euphoric hook, moments and memories carefully stacked upon each other. Though this is essentially a breakup song, it is less about the screaming match than the nebulous emotions that follow. There are open wounds. "I know what you did, and I wanna scream the truth," Lorde seethes. But there’s also an acceptance of longing, as the chorus is constructed around Lorde admitting that she’ll 'come get my things, but I can’t let go.' Here's the video for 'Green Light' and the album will debut in late summer this year:
